5 ways to sustainably care for your garments

HOW CAN YOU MAKE A CONTRIBUTION REDUCING OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT?

Just like other emerging eco-friendly fashion brands, we’re trying to reduce our carbon footprint but we’d like you to help.

How you care for your garment accounts for 25% of its environmental impact. In order to reduce the negative impact of our children’s clothes, we ask you to pass them on to friends, offer them to second hand retailers or send then back to Kioko in exchange for a 20% discount, when your child grows out of them.

Alternatively you can visit Smart-Bandits multi-brand webshop in Belgium where you’ll be given a voucher code towards new items when you hand in your old ones.

5 WAYS TO A SUSTAINABLE APPROACH TO FASHION

HELP US MAKE A DIFFERENCE WITH THESE 5 TIPS

We’re really glad you’ve chosen planet-friendly Kioko clothing and hope that you feel as passionately as we do about making a difference.

If you do, then here are 5 more things you can do to help:

  • GO GREEN

Where possible choose organic materials. Non organic fabrics contain microfibres which are synthetic and are not biodegradable. Unfortunately these microfibres get released when you wash your clothes and enter the eco system eventually ending up in our rivers and seas. Once there, they do untold damage to ocean life and ultimately to us humans as part of our food chain.

  • GO FOR QUALITY

Clothing which is well made will last longer and can be handed down to another generation, thereby reducing the need for increased or further production. Little gestures like this make a difference.

  • GO FOR REPAIR

Don’t discard a garment just because it’s worn, torn or in need of repair. Repair with colourful or pretty patches, cover stains with decorations and mend with colourful stitching - it all adds character and will give your item a new lease of life. And when your child has finally outgrown it - always hand it on for someone else to love and enjoy.

Please contact us if you need any spare buttons, trim or other accessories.

  •  GO BACK TO BASICS

It’s to easy to throw something into the washing machine but that alone has a massive impact on the environment. Instead, air garments by hanging them on a line or hanger and remove stains using traditional methods such as white vinegar, baking soda, and lemon.

  • TAKE A STAND

We all have to take responsibility for the future. We cannot leave it to someone else. That means questioning everything we do and changing old habits! Ask before you buy and make sure you only choose to purchase from sustainable businesses. Support those that are trying to make a difference. Break the mold and help change things for the better.
